I do not hate Obama. I think he is a very intelligent man and an incredible speaker.

I like that him becoming President Elect for the United States is such an inspiring thing for so many millions of people across the US and the world.

I like that he shows that anyone can grow up to become anything.

I do not, however, like his policies and how liberal he is.

I am hoping he will make more moderate decisions and will be wise enough to listen to every perspective and weigh every option before making his decisions.

Thus far, I like how he has decided to include Republicans in his cabinet to have other opinions and standpoints than his and his Democratic party.

I also hope the media is just as critical of Obama as they were of Bush. To be fair, they should be.

I do not like that the whole government is Democratically controlled. Granted, they are more moderate Democrats, but they still have a Democratic agenda, which I do not entirely agree with.

This happened a couple weeks ago, but I want to write about it and share it with all.

My other blog, God’s Way, was about how God guides the day, or longer, for certain events to happen.

This blog is to show how God reassures us He is watching us and encourages us in life.

A couple weeks ago I was driving home from work, listening to Air1 like always when their little spot about Habitats for Humanities, talking about how they are helping build homes for people who are basically homeless, building the houses with the people who will be living in them.

So while listening, I was thinking how I want to do that someday. How I want to go and build houses that will become someone’s home, be one of the people to make it possible for a family to live in a healthy, safe environment that they will call their own.

It’s perfect for me! I love to build and work with my hands, I love to help people. I love to travel and take pictures and I could travel to different regions with Habitats for Humanities. This combines everything! How perfect!

That night I was up late watching TV in the living room when my dad came home from work. For some reason he had a bunch of fortune cookies and gave me one. I open the package, break the cookie and eat half before reading the fortune, like always. I read the little scrap of paper and it says, You will be involved in many humanitarian projects.

Honest, that’s what it said, just a short seven hours after I was thinking about joining a group when I’m done with school and established in my career.

Many people, atheists especially, would chalk that up to coincidence. I, however, am not a fool (Psalm 14:1, 53:1) and believe in a higher being. While I do believe in coincidence, there are some things I believe have stretched too far to be merely coincidence. I believe wholeheartedly that God guides events to his purpose (please see “God’s Way”).

I believe with all my mind, body and spirit that God was encouraging me to pursue my Habitats for Humanities dream, that He was reassuring me that I can do it, that it’s in my future. More than that, I know God is telling me I will do this if I truly want.

Because that’s the kind of God He is.

Jonathan and I were driving from the theater after watching the 10pm showing of Get Smart (awesome movie, btw) a couple weeks ago (I've been trying to post this since then), and I commented that, even tho it was late, he saved some money by eating bbq with my parents at home instead of going out.

Jonathan said, “Not really because you’re going to want Taco Bell, huh?”

“No, I’m good,” I replied, thinking Jonathan wanted Taco Bell and was about to say so when he continued, “Is it wrong I want Taco Bell?”

Lol

So we stop at Taco Bell and I can’t eat a Crunchwrap Supreme while driving, so we sat in the parking lot to eat. While eating, a woman in a Tommy’s uniform walked over and kinda hovered near the passenger side of the car.

Jonathan rolled down the window and she apologized for interrupting and asked if we had jumper cables. Poor lady’s battery was dead.

I unfortunately did not have jumper cables in my car.

I did, however, have my Handy Dandy Mini Jumpstart Battery Pack Thing my dad gave me for just such emergencies. I do believe he mostly intended if for me, tho…

And so, Jonathan and I (mostly Jonathan) helped jumpstart her car and made sure she got on her way just fine.

The funny thing is, if we hadn’t eaten dinner at my house with my parents and watched the Olympic trials for women’s gymnastics we wouldn’t have seen the 9:50 showing of Get Smart. If I didn’t have a ‘tradition’ of staying to the end credits, we wouldn’t have left the theater near midnight, and wouldn’t have stopped for Second Dinner at Taco Bell. If I hadn’t ordered a Crunchwrap Supreme (well, anything, really) we wouldn’t have been sitting in the parking lot. If my father hadn’t been, well, my father and slightly paranoid about his daughters, I would not have had my Handy Dandy Mini Jumpstart Battery Pack Thing and would not have been able to help that lady.

It’s amazing how God guides us to certain things so we are in the places we need to be at the right time. God’s hand guided the events of this night to lead me and Jonathan to the Taco Bell parking lot on Ave P and 10th West at midnight tonight and I’m thankful for that. I love doing things to help people, I love doing nice things. It makes me feel awesome about myself and that I’m worthy of God’s love.

The lady offered to pay Jonathan and me something. We refused, of course, but I hope that as a form of repayment to us, she does a good deed for someone else. And that person for another, and so on. If only everyone was nicer to one another, the world would be a much friendlier, safer place. Alas, it cannot be so. But maybe we can make a difference.
